03.06 "The Silencer"(Steve Kilbey)

Oceania
Fiji->Australia
NAN->SYD

We landed at Nadi Airport (Fiji) and had almost 3 hours before our connecting flight…
that was too much time to waste waiting… so we walked out of the airport for some minutes in a random direction just to feel the heat and aromas of this lush archipelago…

Then, when we passed
customs, I had a déjà-vu from my last trip to Utila: I've found thru my life a few instances where/when a weird case of quantum fluctuation between different arrangements of atoms happen, and one of those magical moments occurs once you are under the influence of a customs agent. For instance, since I had a little bottle of shampoo outside a ziplock bag, it immediately turned into a highly unstable and explosive Nitroglycerin that could either be confiscated and I'd be thrown to jail, or… once I put it into the ziplock bag, it magically turned into harmless Holy Water! Safety guaranteed thanks to the magic of Ziplock bags! Beat that, Harry Potter! and God bless customs agents!

Once on the plane, my favorite announcement was: "Sleeping on the floor is strictly not allowed on this flight"… luckily there was no unreasonable passenger who challenged such compelling order ):)

Sydney: we got there early, but were zombies till after a nap. A night stroll thru Chinatown towards the Harbor proved to have been a great sensing of flow, which led to two discoveries: first, ice creams made using liquid nitrogen

(The torch is for the creme brûlée)

The second discovery was way more important for me: I saw a guy with a great NIN t-shirt and I almost approached him, but I was tired and didn't want to detour from my path… then I saw he was with another guy who ALSO had a NIN t-shirt! Despite the lack of brilliance of my jet-lag-lobotomized brain, I sensed something was going on… as soon as we arrived to the hostel, I found out NIN & QOTSA played that same night in Sydney!! I was shocked! I wanted to have a bamboo chop-stick to commit hara-kiri! Then I saw a light: they were playing again the next day. GA was sold out, and I wasn't sure if I should abandon Basia to feed my addiction… so I went to ponder in my sleep…
