Cairns and Kuranda
Today we went on a magic trip: Cairns -> Kuranda by Skyrail (www.skyrail.com.au) and returned Kuranda -> Cairns by Train (www.ksr.com.au)
It was the perfect combination, since I have a romantic attraction to the future while Basia has a romantic attraction to the past.
The Skyrail connects Cairns to nearby Kuranda over the rainforest.
There are a couple of stops on the way were you can walk along a trail
The transition between different vegetation was striking, most dramatically when we passed over the eucalyptus forest into that much denser, proper rain forest.
After this never-too-long trip, we arrived to Kuranda. It is a picturesque little town that practically lives off tourism. We didn't stay long; just enough to buy a sweet wine for Luis (our future host in Melbourne), visit the Venom Museum…
(This is the best! Copralite, or "Fossilized Dinosaur Poop"… "bullshit" is no more; "DINOSHIT" rules!!!)
Train:
At night we saw the start of a big bat migration from ca. 5-10 trees in downtown Cairns.
I have a lot in video, including the moment when… Bonus track! "I Got A Feeling" (Black Eyed Peas) with a slight modification in the lyrics: "… that tonight's gonna be a POOP night…" and a new nickname for Barbara: "BatBata"… I'll explain better with a diagram:
