Once on the plane that would take us from Sydney to Cairns, we hear on the loudspeaker: "The consumption of your own alcohol is not permitted"… knowing Australians, I understand why they have that restriction ):)

As soon as we land and go to the baggage claim, we saw the banner pictured below (that made the day for Basia)

International Women's Day...
and this is the first banner we see in Cairns

Cairns, situated in the Territory of Queensland (NE of Australia), is a doorway to the first jungle we saw on this trip (more on that on our trip to Kundera)

Later on the day, Basia dropped another gem of wisdom: "when you feel too old to go out, you become a bird watcher"… I immediately stopped trying to identify birds! ):)

Reef Reach was the coolest activity we did in Cairns. The marine biologist's enthusiasm for the reef was contagious. The almost 3-hour talk flew by so quickly! (It really helped prepare us for identifying specimens under the water.)

We are ready to face the Great Reef!
